The Julious Tedd Project
It was in 2020 that a large statute was ordered by the employer in Dubai. Creating large artworks was one of their dreams and passions so, they did it with enthusiasm, and it was one of the biggest challenges of their professional activities.
The first challenge was the large dimensions of the statue, which required a shed with special facilities, including access to main roads and wide alleys and a large entrance door so that, they could move the statue. That’s why they had to leave their studio in the city center and start working in an industrial town. The second challenge of making gigantic sculptures was that the statue had to be divided into several pieces and in the end assembled on the building after transportation in Dubai.
Parts of the sculpture had to be cut to make it portable gave an engineering approach to the execution of the work. Transporting cargo to Dubai and the issue of what cargo can be transported caused an engineering company to be consulted and after numerous meetings and various tests that were conducted, the number of pieces of the statue and the materials used for the construction of the statue were determined… Most of the meetings were held in a cafe directly opposite the project in Dubai.
The next challenge was to make the statue seems to stare at the cafe in front of it, and this task was visually and compositionally attractive, but in execution, when engineering issues were considered, it was a very difficult task. One of the problems with this decision was the large head of the statue and its forward center of gravity, which protruded from the building. Another important problem was the resistance of the statue’s joints against wind and storms.
The Teddy project started with all its challenges and due to the Corona epidemic in Tehran, they had to do all the construction steps in quarantine with only five people. In that period, the only thing that entered through the door of the shed was the raw materials of resin and iron, plywood sheets, and Styrofoam blocks.
After the construction of Teddy was finished, on the day of transportation, no one would believe that such a statue was built inside this shed.
Making Teddy II was done faster and with less difficulty.
The crearter`s hands
The Hands project was ordered by the employer of the Dubai project, which included hands that could be sat on. As a result, the work should be interactive in addition to visual appeal.
It was decided that the hands should come from the ceiling to the ground and the position of the fingers should be as if they were holding a gift. This work is made of metal armature based on Mitra’s hands.
